Whether you love or hate the design of the Tesla Cybertruck, it’s safe to say this electric pickup has a rugged look thanks to its multi-directional stainless steel finish. Even so, some owners want a color on their units (as in not the “nothing” Elon Musk initially mentioned for the hue of the vehicle). And before Tesla brings the optional factory wraps to the real world, the company has showcased the first Cybertruck wrapped by a third party at the Miami Art Basel 2023.
The recent art fair, held in Miami’s Wynwood Art District, included a Tesla popup store. This is where the brand featured a Satin Black-wrapped Cybertruck, along with a Cyberquad for Kids sporting a similar finish.
Multiple aftermarket wrap specialists are prepared to wrap the Cybertruckโthere are even configurators/visualizers onlineโand Tesla chose Florida-based Von Wraps for the task. Based on the hashtags the company used to feature the project on social media, it used a Satin Black vinyl wrap for the Tesla Cybertruck.
Given the artistic setup, the electric truck also received an extremely dark window tint, along with a graffitti-like “Cybertruck” colored piece for the tailgate. Still, the windshield remains 100% transparent, as it comes from the factory.
Unlike the black-wrapped Cybertruck that Tesla design boss Franz von Holzhausen drove to Cars & Cofee Malibu last month, the Miami Art Basel example seems to sport a carefully laid wrap.
After all, applying the wrap over the curved surfaces of a vehicle is the main challenge of such a process, which arguably makes the cost of labor higher than that of the material. And with the Cybertruck’s straight-line-only design, the said specialist confirmed on Instagram that the pickup was the easiest vehicle it had ever wrapped and that no trim removal was needed.
Tesla offers Cybertruck factory wraps in Black or White
As expected, Tesla has recently expanded its factory wrap offer to include the Cybertruck. As such, the Tesla website shows you can have the pickup truck covered in a self-healing, urethane-based protection film. The carmakers explains the film is more scratch-resistant than standard vinyl, while also being friendlier to the environment.
Then again, the factory wrap option for the Cybertruck costs a non-negligible $6,500โdepending on your spec, that can be more than 10% of the vehicle’s value. Keep in mind that you can have the Cybertruck in three trims: the $60,000 RWD (single motor, coming in 2025), the $79,990 AWD (dual-motor, already available) and the $99,000 Cyberbeast (tri-motor, also available at the time of press). Nevertheless, there are so-called tax loopholes that may help with getting a Cybertruck.
You can choose between a Satin Black and a Satin White finish, with every stainless steel surface on the Cybertruck being covered with this option. And while Tesla currently offers more colors for its Model 3 and Model Y wraps ($7,500), the Cybertruck matches these by also receiving what the company calls a premium Satin Clear paint film that preserves the stainless steel look for $5,000.
