Bugatti Chiron Driven on the Rim Looks Like Expensive Servicing

As you can imagine, a vehicle like the Bugatti Chiron requires some special servicing procedures, with the French automaker having even released the Passeport Tranquillite program that covers the service program for the Chiron and Veyron. Of course, there are times when a shop will treat one of these hypercars to the usual shortcuts when fixing them and this is how a Bugatti Chiron ended up being driven into a garage on its rim.

A piece of footage showcases the Chiron being unloaded off a truck with the help of additional ramps. And, as the 1,500 hp Bugatti gets backed into the servicing area, we get to see the right-side rear tire is missing.

We found the video on Instagram thanks to @supercarfails, which uploaded this just hours ago. However, the page lists the source as TikToker jpmcars, who uploaded the clip to the platform back on June 15.

As for the details, all we can tell is that the shop whose technician seems to be driving the Bugatti Chiron on its rim appears to be located in the US. We can hear somebody directing the driver in English, they use a piece of hardware supplied by American specialist Race Ramps, and the Porsche 911 GT3 RS parked outside features yellow US-spec side markers.

This is a service location that handles high-end vehicles, as the Chiron goes past a highly collectible Ferrari 458 Speciale, with other Prancing Horses in the background.

As for why the staff chose to handle the car this way, we can see a bit of damage on the wheel that’s missing a tire. So perhaps this was set to be changed altogether, so it didn’t make sense to fit a new tire to it.

However, those brightly colored wheel dollies in the frame could be a hint towards a procedure that at least looks less risky. Plus, the customer service section of the Bugatti website shows a Veyron with dedicated shop wheels on, so perhaps those are also available for the Chiron and could’ve been used in this situation.

How much does it cost to change the wheels and tires on a Bugatti Chiron?

Seeing that Chiron covers even a couple of feet on the rim will naturally make you wonder what changing the wheels and tires on the quad-turbo W16 8.0L hypercar costs. Fortunately, owners can thank the “early adopters” of Bugatti’s modern age, namely the Veyron owners, for the fact that the Chiron is considerably cheaper to service.

As Bugatti was experimenting heavily when developing the Veyron, they came up with extreme engineering solutions, which is why replacing the custom Michelin Pilot Sport PAX tires, something that needs to be done every 18 months or 2,500 miles (4,000 km), costs between $30,000 and $42,000, as stated in Donut Media clip. Plus, a new set of wheels is required with each three tire changes, as there’s a special rim geometry, while the wheels and the tires are basically glued together.

The Chiron can use Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 XL, or the all-season Michelin Pilot Sport PAX tires. All in all, a set of four will set you back $8,450 and needs to be changed every five years or when they wear out due to putting that 1,500 hp to the road. By the way, here’s a Chiron initially losing a drag race to a Porsche 911 Turbo due to extreme wheelspin.

According to Muhammad Al Qawi Zamani, a Malaysian Chiron owner who had his vehicle serviced at Bugatti Singapore, a set of wheels for the Chiron is around $50,000.

As for the overall servicing costs for a Chiron, The Hamilton Collection guys, who own such a hypercar, shared the details last December (you can find these in the clip at the bottom of the story).

So, once you go past the four-year warranty (with unlimited mileage) of the Chiron, there will be an annual maintenance cost of $11,500. However, once every four years, the Chiron needs a major service, which will set you back $34,000.

So, for the first ten years of Bugatti Chiron ownership, we have four covered by warranty, with the following six getting the total maintenance costs to $91,500. A Bugatti Chiron driven on its rim, tough? Now that’s priceless.
