If you’re an optimist, you’ll expect the first customer deliveries for the 2024 Ford Mustang to take place this summer. But let’s not dwell on that for too long—even with some recent production delays, the S650 pony will eventually start landing on people’s driveways. And some of those folks will wish to mod their muscle cars right away. Enter the best-looking widebody 2024 Mustang Dark Horse we’ve seen to date.
Of course, since the only real-world widebody S650 currently in existence is the 1,300 hp 2024 Mustang RTR Spec 5-FD in Formula Drift, the one on our screens is a rendering. However, it’s quite an elaborate effort, showcasing some features we’re bound to see on actual projects.
For starters, bradbuilds, the digital artist behind the project, is one of the leading pixel masters on social media, often being the first to create 3D models of new cars, so he knows his craft.
The 2024 Mustang Dark Horse has highly refined aero, so a widebody needs to take this into account
The overfenders of the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse follow the factory design, so we get more of the evolutionary vibz ushered in by the S650 generation. Even so, the generously-sized wheel arches leave no room for error when it comes to the aftermarket attitude.
The side skirt extensions follow the same path, so we’ll move on to the front end. This is where the lower front grille is gone, allowing us to see an intercooler—remember, Indiana-based Fathouse Fabrications is preparing an S650 twin-turbo kit that will take the Gen IV Coyote of the Dark Horse (500 hp from the factory) into a totally different league.
The front splitter of this widebody 2024 Mustang Dark Horse is joined by a pair of canards, along with side blades for the front fenders and rear bumper. Speaking of the posterior, the diffuser seems to be the stock unit, while the springs added to the factory rear wing are there to illustrate the removable upper section. Ford Performance engineers came up with this to allow drivers to cut drag when aiming for top speed runs.
And while a few standout aftermarket specialists like Mozy like to build real widebody kits based on standout renderings like this one, anybody willing to offer a Dark Horse widebody needs to pay serious attention to the aero.
That’s because the Dark Horse spent countless aero in the wind tunnel to achieve an outstanding result: it packs more drag than the S550 Mustang Mach 1, but with less drag.
Note that bradbuilds added quick-release hood pins, but kept the massive hood scoop. The latter isn’t there solely for cooling purposes—even though it will help twin-turbo and supercharged aftermarket applications—but also generates downforce.
It goes without saying that the infamous Volk Racing TE37 wheels and the air suspension add to the bad boy look of this ‘Stang.
The 2024 Mustang Dark Horse has an MSRP of $59,565 and can go up to almost $80,000 with all the options. And we bet that tuners will make it easy for buyers to build a Dark Horse that goes past the $100,000 mark.
