Hyundai used to make boring cars but is now impressing everybody with its N performance vehicles, its SUVs, and especially its Ioniq 5 EV. Hopefully, when the Hyundai Ioniq 7 N arrives, combining all three segments, it’s just as good as the sum of its parts.
The Ioniq 5 is already an impressive EV in its 320 horsepower dual-motor setup. Its sister car, the Kia EV6, proved to be a match for an old Ferrari. But there’s an even more powerful system on its way.
With about 580 horsepower at its disposal, the EV6 GT that just got shown at the Goodwood FoS will hit 62 mph in 3.5 seconds. Imagine that, a Kia/Hyundai that could hold some kind of performance world record.
Of course, both companies plan to launch EV models in many other segments, and one of the most hotly anticipated models is the Hyundai Ioniq 7. It’s already been previewed by a pixel-clad concept SUV and will enter production for the 2024 model year with a base price of around $50,000.
The Ioniq 7 should sell out right away, based on the success of the Palisade crossover. The EV model is said to be similar in size, but with such eccentric styling, it’s going to stand out more than any Tesla.
It’s safe to assume that it too will feature the 580 horsepower powertrain, and that could make it about as fast as a BMW X5 M50i. However, Hyundai clearly can’t resist picking fights with all the established automakers. And right now, there’s nothing cooler when it comes to large EVs than the Hummer. Yes, it’s a pickup, but the SUV is also on its way.
In preparation for such a fight, the Ioniq Seven concept has been rendered by SRK Designs into this Ioniq 7 N. Not an N-Line, but a real N with the styling elements we’ve come to expect. Like the Kona, Veloster, and Elantra N models, it’s painted a specific shade of blue and has big wheels with a black body kit.
Obviously, SUVs are not supposed to be racing cars, but that hasn’t stopped BMW or Mercedes from making big money with 4x4s. And let’s not forget the Urus, Bentayga, and Cullinan are some of the most desirable vehicles right now.
