According to Forbes, Kanye West is worth $1.5 billion, but it could be even more. He makes $220 million a year just from the Yeezy shoe brand, plus he’s also one of the most successful artists of all time. While he has owned every type of luxury vehicle imaginable, Kanye was recently spotted driving a yellow Isuzu Vehicross with an average market value of only $13,000.
Kanye was spotted with 27YO Bianca Censori at the Lobster restaurant in Santa Monica. The white-bearded gentleman in the Isuzu SUV’s passenger seat is the renowned artist James Turrell.
What’s the deal with this weird SUV? Well, as it turns out, Kanye West has excellent tastes in cars because the Isuzu Vehicross is a popular niche car, a Japanese 4×4 that’s popular with collectors due to its unique styling.
We’ve always wanted to own a Vehicross because it’s so quirky and interesting. Kanye’s little SUV doesn’t have the outright power of a Lamborghini Urus, but it is pretty rare. Between 1997 and 2001, Isuzu only produced 5,958 examples. Of those, about 4,000 were sold in the US.
It was sold in America for the 1999, 2000, and 2001 model years and was only offered here with a 3.5-liter V6 engine paired with a 4-speed automatic gearbox. It produces 215 horsepower, which is about 1/3 of what you get from a Lamborghini SUV. However, everybody has seen a Urus around Beverly Hills.
The price of Kanye West’s Isuzu Vehicross
A lot of car enthusiasts want a Vehicross (officially written as VehiCROSS), but it’s surprisingly undervalued. Perhaps Kanye West owning one might boost the price of this 20-year-old Japanese SUV. In 2001, a Vehicross would have cost about $30,000 new.
The average value of an Isuzu Vehicross in 2023 is $12,840. Only six of them have been sold in America in the past 12 months, nearly all on Cars & Bids. Doug DeMuro, the owner of this popular auction website, recently said the Vehicross is one of the easiest ways to “win cars & coffee for under $30,000.”
According to him, owning an Isuzu means you have a much more interesting personality than somebody just buying an expensive collectible Ferrari like the F40.
The Vehicross was originally developed for the Japanese market and was based on the practical, normal-looking Isuzu Trooper. However, it had very distinctive styling with black body cladding held with rivets all around the sporty 3-door body. Kanye’s Isuzu has been fitted with aftermarket wheels which appear to have a beadlock design and wider tires.
Besides the “anti-chip polypropylene body protection”, features also include an integrated rear roof spoiler, power windows, and locks, Recaro heated front sport seats, automatic climate control, and the Proton Yellow exterior paint.
