$24,000 Space Camper for Tesla Cybertruck Promises Clever, Stylish EV Lodging

Truck campers have been an integral part of American culture for half a century. They offer an interesting solo to your sleeping and eating needs on the good. But as the pickup evolves with the arrival of the Tesla Cybertruck, so too must the camper.

Meet the Space Camper, a $24,000 product that promises to not only fit the most important vehicle to debut within the next year but also brings a lot of design and practical innovations.

Usually, truck campers look like big Tetris blocks that mount on top of the bed. They’re big, they’re bulky, and that’s just not going to cut it for the Tesla Cybertruck, the most innovative new design to hit this segment.

The market is going to be huge, so many companies are trying to stay ahead of the game, developing their products even before the Cybertruck is ready for mass production. One such ambitious company is Space Campers, which has rolled out this $24,000 rooftop wedge that perfectly matches the style of Tesla’s first pickup truck.

You should think of this more like a “promise to deliver” since it’s impossible to make a product like this accurately without measuring and scanning an actual Cybertruck, which won’t be ready until next year. Rumors have suggested the proportions are going to be slightly different from what Elon presented on stage back in 2019.

Bed, kitchen, shower

In any case, these 3D models of the Space Camper are really promising. They’re matching not only the shape of the pickup but also the color. That’s pretty crazy, considering Musk’s team picked 300 series stainless steel as their exterior building material of choice. Wouldn’t it be cool if the camper was bulletproof?

When the camper isn’t being used it matches the wedge shape of the Cybertruck, creating a flat roof for some solar panels to rest on. But once the accommodations are needed, the roof is erected via pneumatic struts. This reveals a detachable fold-down bed covered in 4-inch memory foam, 50 inches (127cm) across and approximately 6 feet 8 inches long (203cm).

That sounds like just enough for two people to enjoy the great outdoors. And they can cook as well, using the mini-kitchen below. The built-in awning will provide some much-needed shade as well. Space Campers is already taking reservations and promises to have options like a portable hot shower developed as well. That’s for the best, considering what Rivian already offers for the R1T pickup.

It honestly doesn’t look as comfortable as a traditional high-roof truck camper because of the wedge design. But because you’re talking about the Cybertruck here, it just feels so new, and living off the Tesla battery pack rather than needing auxiliary power sounds like a new type of outdoor adventure.
