Hyundai Ioniq 6 Shooting Brake Looks Like a French Wagon “Goddess”

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is a brand new electric car from Korea. It’s not only an alternative to the Tesla Model 3, but also a great-looking thing that proves EVs can look exciting (without costing Porsche money). Its shape is that of a future-retro sedan, but today we’re going to look at the work of a designer who thinks the Ioniq 6 Shooting Brake should be a thing.

Nikita Chuicko has created such an Ioniq 6 rendering out of Hyundai’s own design using Photoshop. This time, three angles were created, front, side and rear, to give viewers of the website Kolesa a clear view of the shooting brake’s potential.

Calling it that is a clear reminder of Porsche. Along with Jaguar and Mercedes, they created a shooting brake type design out of a mass-market luxury sedan. Believe it or not, but the Jaguar XF Shooting Brake is still in production, though it doesn’t shine nearly as bright as the Panamera Sport Turismo. Porsche also created what could be described as the first shooting brake EV, the Taycan Cross Turismo.

Last week, Hyundai also revealed the stunning N Vision 74, a hydrogen-powered throwback. It’s been said this looks more like a DeLorean than the upcoming DeLorean revival. Ironically, the Ioniq 6 Shooting Brake is beginning to resemble another car as well, a French icon.

The Citroen DS was the Tesla of the 1950s

We’re talking about the Citroen DS, which shocked the world when it was shown at the 1955 Paris Motor Show. It looked like a UFO and its name was a pun on the French name for goddess, deesse. Within the first 10 days of its reveal, they secured 80,000 orders, an actual sales record that stood until the Tesla Model 3 arrived in 2016.

Anyway, the bit that looks most like the Citroen DS is the Ioniq 6’s headlights. And while the French did make the “Safari Estate” wagon version of their car, I think the Hyundai rendering is more like the Citroรซn DS23 Pallas from the 1970s, long and with all the lines of the rear end cascading down.

Hyundai hasn’t released many technical details about the Ioniq 6, but it uses the same platform as the 5. Even though the wheelbase is shorter than that crossover, overall, it’s slightly longer than a BMW i4.

There should be two battery options, the entry-level 58 kWh pack and the 77 kWh pack for high-end models. The Ioniq 6 is shaped like a fish, so it should be a little more energy-efficient than its boxy cousin. Depending on the market, the RWD models will have 170, 217 or 228 horsepower. A dual-motor model will deliver over 300 hp and should be as fast as an old Ferrari.

However, an Ioniq 6 N is also looking likely, not just because they showed a racing prototype, but also due to the imminent debut of a 580 hp powertrain for the E-GMP platform, which is also going on the Genesis GV60.
