The next generation of the BMW M5 will have a powerful plug-in hybrid powertrain centered around the twin-turbo V8. With as much as 800 hp, it may be the most powerful M5 ever. But 2024 will also mark the return of the M5 Touring version, which could even be headed to the United States.
The M5 is supposed to have the same plug-in hybrid drive as the XM. While the XM Label Red raches 738 hp, media reports claim as much as 800 hp for the 2024/2025 M5 sedan. However, we’re most excited about the return of the BMW M5 Touring in 2024.
This has been officially confirmed by BMW, and rumors suggest the M5 Touring will be sold in the States as a 2025 model. This could become one of the most interesting performance cars of the decade because it competes directly with the Audi RS6, the dominant hot wagon.
RS6 tuning projects and body kits are also very popular. Because the car is so iconic, people will spend insane money on custom carbon add-ons. Our favorite kits for the RS6 are from DarwinPRO, Mansory and ABT.
So how would a widebody M5 Touring look? Well, this is a very interesting concept from the renowned rendering artist Hycade. His 3D model not only tries to guess what the M5 looks like before it’s revealed but also upgrades it with supercar levels of attitude.
Hycade renders the M5 Touring
The M5 Touring concept features the usual “Hardcore” body kit design we see in all of Hycade‘s renderings. The widebody is done in an aggressive OEM+ way, with extensions that flow with the factory body. much larger lower grill openings are added to the front, and vents conduct air down the sides of the body.
A large chin spoiler, side skirts, and a massive rear diffuser all add character to the M5 Touring, and Hycade’s vision also includes aggressive exhaust, wider wheels and lowered suspension. There are some juicy details too, for hardcore BMW fans, like the M5 badge in the Hofmeister kink and the carbon fiber roof.
Hycade’s M5 Touring concept is not for everybody; it is for those who love widebody wagons. We admit that the bulging hood isn’t the classiest in the world, but that’s how you get your new BMW gets to the next level, where every Instagram page posts it.
The M5 Touring is one of the rarest, most interesting M cars ever made. Two generations exist, and everybody remembers the E61 from 2007. This variant of the 4th-gen M5 featured the legendary screaming V10 engine and over 500 horsepower. But the E34 M5 Touring should also be celebrated. While the internet claims the Audi RS2 was the world’s first performance wagon in 1994, the E34 arrived two years before that.
