2025 Ford Expedition Raptor Wants to Go Where No Timberline Has Gone

With the current fourth-gen Ford Expedition in production since 2017, the Blue Oval has been spotted testing a revised Expedition for 2025. And it looks like the three-row SUV, which shares its platform with the F-150, is set to receive at least one offroading-savvy version, with the 2025 Expedition Raptor portrayed in this rendering being one of the most likely iterations.

Right now, customers willing to fully use the rugged terrain abilities of the Expedition can opt for the Timberline trim, which was introduced for the 2022 model year. This brings along a wider track, 10.6 inches of ground clearance, F-150 Raptor-borrowed underbody protection, along with dedicated wheels shod in 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler A/T tires.

And the $74,445 MSRP Expedition Timberline’s high-output 3.5L twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost, which delivers 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque, is just 10 hp shy of what the F-150 Raptor has to offer. And yes, there’s a ten-speed automatic transmission sending the power to all four wheels.

So Ford could always throw in an even more capable suspension, along with a more aggressive overall setup—modulated by driving modes—and deliver a 2025 Expedition Raptor like the one portrayed in this rendering from TIS Wheels—yes, the CGI straight-up borrows the front fascia of the F-150 Raptor.

And while that face swap isn’t likely on the production model, the 2025 Expedition is getting is fair share of fascia design changes at both ends—the heavy camouflage on the various test vehicles had hidden the details from prying eyes so far, though.

A Ford Expedition Tremor is also possible for 2025

Of course, the more hardcore Expedition could always receive the Tremor treatment rather than the Baja take that defines the Raptor. One argument for this is that giving the Expedition a Raptor version would lead to questions about a potential Raptor R iteration like that of the F-150. And, in this emission restriction era, adding another supercharged V8 to the range doesn’t quite make sense.

Even so, since Ford CFO John Lawler has stated the carmaker is working on additional Raptor and Tremor models—the executive didn’t deliver any further details—our fingers are crossed for the Expedition to land on this golden, mud-friendly list.

Either way, we’ll find out later this year, when Ford is set to unveil the 2025 Expedition range.
