2-Door 2022 GMC Yukon GT Dreams of Escalade-V Power Under Its Cowl Hood

Split-light Chevy trucks like this 455 SS have been modern classics for many years. However, people are sleeping on the GMC Yukon GT, which is every bit as sexy as a short pickup with its gloss black body and effortlessly sporty looks.

The 1990s are a wonderful era where performance pickups and SUVs were on top of their game. The GMC Syclone came out in 1991 with a 4.3-liter turbocharged V6 and it birthed the Typhoon. Meanwhile, the C1500 birthed the 455 SS, and while it didn’t have a big-block SUV counterpart, this GMC Yukon GT had the same attitude.

The Yukon was a brand new nameplate in 1991, directly replacing the Jimmy. They didn’t offer a removable hardtop and instead installed full-length steel roofs. The 2-door wagon style of body was standard until 1994 and got dropped in 1997. Of course, the GMC model was a badge-engineered Tahoe, but we think it looked better.

Today, some people still believe GMC models look a little bit classier than Chevrolet counterparts, myself included. And digital artist Oscar Vargas (aka wb.artist20) thus decided to bring back the sporty GMC Yukon GT in a 2022 style.

His rendering features some extreme mods to get truck chassis fans excited. Like that Jimmy that’s being built right now (which by the way was also rendered by Oscar), this is a two-door vehicle, not the luxury 4-door family hauler sold by dealerships. It appears short and nimble, and its Cadillac-like widebody kit provides ample attitude.

Supercharger needed

Speaking of Cadillac, we know exactly what should be placed under the hood of this bad boy, the V8 from the Escalade-V, a 6.2-liter supercharged LS making 682 horsepower and 653 lb-ft of torque. Both vehicles are made at the Arlington plant in Texas and have a lot in common. I know it’s like combining lions and tigers, but just like the ligar, this can work, since a 6.2-liter is already under the hood of a normal Yukon.

Oscar doesn’t directly mention the Cadillac engine, but it’s clear he was thinking along those lines since he gave the Yukon GT a cowl hood with a scoop at the front. Also, the hood is front-hinged because it “is less likely to fly off in high speeds.”

The most you could get out of a classic Yukon 2-door was 255 hp from a 5.7-liter Vortec, which still wasn’t that bad for this era.

Additional sports truck mods to this 2022 Yukon include huge forged wheels with Brembo cross-drilled brakes, a C7-style quad exhaust system at the back, and ample wings and spoilers. Also, the crazy contraption comes with “Lambo doors” because it’s apparently better for tight parking. They look more like McLaren doors or even Ferrari doors, but we’ll let that slide.
