Andrew Tate recently complained about his BMW M4. Apparently, the girls he’s dating aren’t impressed because their fathers also own BMWs. However, there’s one car that is obviously more powerful, expensive, and luxurious than any other Bavarian, and that’s the 2024 BMW i7 M70.
The 650 horsepower electric sedan is a member of the 7 Series family, and right now, there’s only a few in the world, this two-tone black and metallic orange example. While being showcased by BMW Middle East, it landed in the capable hands of the RoCars camera crew, which shot this incredible video.
BMW has never made a car with “70” at the end of the name; it stopped at 60 with things like the M760Li and the new X7 M60. So right there, you know this is a special car, even though it doesn’t have a proper M name. There was also the M70 engine, the first production V12 in BMW history, made in 1987, which eventually evolved into the thing that powered the McLaren F1.
Until now, the most powerful electric car BMW was the iX M60 crossover with 610 and up to 811 pound-feet of torque (using launch control). So the power increase from the M60 to the M70 isn’t massive. However, the flagship i7 can still shoot to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, which is not bad for what is basically a Rolls-Royce limo with a German badge.
The battery technology is pretty impressive as well: 101.7 kWh, supposedly good for 295 miles (EPA). Most impressive of all is the fact that you can go from 0 to 80% charge in as little as 34 minutes. To make the range happen, BMW installed a new mode called MaxRange, debuting here, but soon to be available on other models.
So what about the luxury of the i7 M70?
Well, in this department, the car is the strongest. BMW has brought out a special paint color for this version of the i7, with Liquid Copper on the bottom and Black Sapphire on top. It also has a very nice black pinstripe, which I think you’ll enjoy if you’re a fan of old BMWs. This paint alone costs about โฌ12,000 to order in Germany.
The most expensive electric Mercedes is very fast, but it doesn’t look this good from the front. The i7 M70 boasts a massive double kidney grille which is now illuminated, the usual crystal lights up top, and a black grille at the bottom.
Down the sides, we notice a sprinkling of M elements, such as the M mirror caps and new wheel designs. And it’s a luxury car as well, so it’s got doors that open themselves and close like other 7 Series. The M touch is also visible through the large diffuser at the back.
What’s new on the inside?
Well, if you watch the video from RoCars, you might notice that the i7 M70 doesn’t have a leather interior. That’s because BMW has developed a new premium fabric made from cashmere with some smaller inserts of leather. It’s meant to be more comfortable in hot weather, so it’s perfect for the Middle East.
New for the M70 model is a large insert covering the whole top of the dash in a combination of carbon fiber and silver. The infotainment has been upgraded to the new iDrive8.5, and there’s a stunning home theater in the back with a 31-inch 8K screen. However, my favorite component has to be the steering wheel, super-thick and features those machined metal spokes.
The 2024 BMW i7 M70 will start from around $150,000 when it goes on sale later this year, making it about $30,000 extra compared to the iX M60. However, it’s slightly below the most expensive series production BMW right now, the XM SUV.
Apparently, the i7 M70 is so cool that it even gets its own movie, BMW Films’ “The Calm”, featuring Pom Klementieff aka Mantis from Guardians of the Galaxy. Watch it below!
