WhistlinDiesel Poses in DeLorean With Nike Air Mag “Back to the Future” Shoes, Will Probably Destroy Them

WhistlinDiesel remains one of the most popular YouTubers in the world, and the key to his success has always been controversy. Over the years, it’s almost become his mission to anger or trigger fans of… basically everything. It’s not just about cars, though, as his latest Instagram post shows him wearing Nike Air Mag sneakers while sitting in a DeLorean.

This is an obvious tribute to one of the coolest classic movies ever, Back to the Future. He’s got the right clothes, the right car, and even the hoverboard.

The caption of the photo reads “Something in this picture cost $34,999.99.” You naturally think he’s talking about the car, but the DeLorean isn’t actually that expensive unless you’ve got a really nice one or it has historical significance. Instead, Cody Detwiler is talking about the shoes here.

The Nike Air Mag “Back to the Future” shoes are a hot commodity in the world of sneakers. They start off at $35,000 but you can find them listed for up to $150,000, and that’s an insane amount of money for something you walk in, but they are super-rare.

The self-lacing shoes cost…

There are only 89 examples of the Nike Air Mag: 89 out there, numbered as a tribute to the film. Back in 1989, Marty McFly time-traveled almost three decades into the future to 2015, in Back to the Future II and the world was introduced to self-lacing sneakers. But those are worth more than the $35,000 claim. Cody’s shoes could be just a regular “Back to the Future” edition of which 1500 were made.

Also, it seems that WhistlinDiesel bought these from a famous shoe guy, Harrison Nevel, who said “Thanks for coming by and buying the shoes, please take care of them, they are my babies” in the comments on Instagram.

Yeah, fat chance Nevel! Have you never watched a WhistlinDiesel video before? He’s probably going to destroy them in “durability testing”. In fact, there’s a hint in the caption “And Iโ€™m about to throw out my old work bootsโ€ฆ” which is a reference to a video 10 months ago where $12,000 Air Diors were used as work boots.

WhistlinDiesel likes to destroy things

In fact, pretty much every expensive thing Cody has bought ended up being destroyed in some way, culminating in his recent G63 AMG content where the SUV which he claims cost $300,000 got jumped, bumped, crashed, and dropped through the roof of a house.

I’m not easily offended, but I really hated how the Dodge Charger “General Lee” was treated. That muscle car was absolutely perfect. And I can imagine that a sneaker or Back to the Future fan is going to be angry when one of only 89 Air Mags will be damaged. They’re basically irreplaceable.

Then again, he could also be talking about the car. He’s not, but let’s just say a few things about the DeLorean in case he wrecks one of those too. They used six DeLorean DMC-12s to film the Back to the Future trilogy. These “time machines” are immediately recognizable and some people think these are the most interesting movie cars ever, which is why there are so many replicas out there.

DeLorean was the playboy of American automotive design. And because he was as famous as his creations, he created his own company. The DMC-12 had this unique stainless steel body, but it was slow by exotic car standards.ย About 8600 DMC-12s were produced between January 1981 and December 1982 when the company went under.

Update: It happened, everything we predicted. At the end of January 2023, WhistlinDiesel bought $35,000 Nike Air Mags, the Back to the Future self-lacing sneaker, and used them as work boots.

The shoes were “manhandled” even before being bought, taken out of their protective case and everything. Punctured by nails, dipped in cement, power-washed, and destroyed by a steamroller, before being covered in oil and dust. These famous shoes have been completely ruined. But at least that DeLorean scene was nice.
