As previously reported, the 2024 Ford F-150 will feature a significant refresh. This model year will introduce a major update to the infotainment system as well as a fresh design which includes new lights, trim, and grille designs.
Ahead of its official debut later this year, the 2024 Ford F-150 was spied undergoing high-altitude testing in Colorado. This is the stomping ground of TFL, and they were able to find and film a test prototype in detail… while cruising in the supercharged V8 monster that is the F-150 Raptor R.
Unlike in previous months, the grille and headlights of the updated F-150 are completely visible here. Let’s talk about the new lights first. This is a clear attempt from Ford designers to link the grille and lights into a cohesive unit.
You can see that the headlights have a clean, rectangular shape and are formed of two very clear projectors each. Additionally, the LED signature that surrounds the projector has been split into separate vertical and horizontal bars, while the previous amber color has been replaced with white. The grille is specific to this middle trim, but even on the two Raptor models, it will be connected to the shape of the lights.
Around the back, it appears the 2024 Ford F-150 will have redesigned taillights. These ditch the previous C-clamp design for something which resembles an apostrophe or a lowercase r. It’s quite similar to the Lightning but in a more 3D layout. Ford Blue President Kumar Galhotra has previously said the company is looking to reduce the number of parts used, meaning there will be slightly fewer trim levels or options, conserving profit and hopefully keeping prices near their current levels.
While not captured on video, we believe the 2024 Ford F-150 will debut later this year with a vertical infotainment screen, meaning a Lightning dashboard on regular models. We might also see a shift-by-wire system added to conserve space on the console.
As far as the powertrains are concerned, Ford is looking to improve what it’s already got. There are rumors of a 2.7-liter EcoBoost-based hybrid added for efficiency, but owners want the electric system in the current PowerBoost to work better, not a smaller V6. At least for the 2024 model year, the Raptor and Raptor R are safe, both have been seen testing in Detroit with this new light design.
