BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage Accurately Rendered As the Ultimate Coachbuilt M4 Exotic

BMW is like the Lamborghini of normal cars, always eager to please enthusiasts with exclusive editions. We’re already blown away that the M3 Touring is a real wagon that you can buy, but this next project takes that technology to the next level of exclusivity. That’s right, we’re talking about the recently confirmed BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage.

Think of this as a coachbuilt version of the M4 Coupe that pays tribute to one of the most legendary names in BMW racing history. But it’s not to be confused with the M4 CSL, which is a lightweight version without the bespoke looks.

What we know so far is that the BMW 3.0 CLS will be revealed this fall, probably at the big motor show in September. Normally, this is the kind of car you’d want to present at Pebble Beach, but BMW doesn’t want to homologate this car in the United States. The shocking part about the CSL Hommage is that it’s reportedly going to cost โ‚ฌ750,000 in Germany.

That’s a serious chunk of supercar cash, more than both the Aventador SVJ and the Ultimae. They are going to make about 50 of them by hand, so they’re going to be extremely rare, tightly clutched by collectors and probably driven sparingly.

It’s a shame, because the 3.0 CSL is going to be quite competent. Development is going on at the Nurburgring, so with a mule that’s nearly lighting its brakes on fire. We actually have a much better idea of what the Hommage car looks like thanks to some teaser shots and not the spy footage.

Once again, the website Kolesa is showing its disregard for camouflage by removing it to reveal what BMW’s baby looks like. Their rendering is pretty accurate from what we can tell, and portrays a car that’s not too different from the regular M4 in proportions.

An all-new front end has been grafted on, featuring a new design for the kidney grilles and front fenders that seem to wrap around the hood. The 3.0 CSL Hommage also has angular, wide hips at the back, ending in a wing that’s stylishly integrated into its design.

Why does this look familiar? Because in 2015, they showed the 3.0 CSL Hommage R concept car to honor the 40th anniversary of the 1975 3.0 CSL which really helped BMW establish itself in America through motorsport. Compared to that concept, this rendering is actually a little watered down, mainly because the new one appears to have normal headlights. It’s rumored the limited edition car will have as much as 600 horsepower from the familiar straight-six and should control its rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.
