It’s Ferrari for business and classic muscle for pleasure. This is our takeaway from “Run”, the latest music video released by rapper YG, a collab with Tyga, Bia, and 21 Savage.
The clip, which hit YouTube about 12 hours ago (at the time of press), comes in preparation for YG’s sixth studio album. It sees the Cali rappers pulling off a heist, with their bank-robbing activities involving a Ferrari F8 Spider. And hey, it looks like going for the convertible version makes running from the police easier!
The long arm of the law? The officers have to deal with the crew pulling a White Chick movie-like stunt. As for their motorized hardware, you can bet the modern Dodge Charger sedan is present, being accompanied by a Dodge van. And the Crown Vic may be retired, but the trusty Ford reported in for duty when the video was made.
Classic muscle dominates the music video
Enough about the modern metal, though. You see, at least in this clip (for one, in real life, Tyga seems to be a Ferrari guy, having bought a LaFerrari Aperta and an 812 Superfast), the singers are classic muscle fans at heart.
Ladies first: Bia seems to have matched her outfit to the Hemi Orange shade of the 1970 Dodge Charger R/T that gets a pretty important role in the video. Hey’s is that a sunroof in a sea of black vinyl?
Then again, so did YG, who’s close to a 1970+ Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Holiday Coupe in the vid. These bad boys came with a rare fastback roof line. Tyga? The ride we see him with is a 1968 Pontiac GTO Convertibleโthis was the second generation of the vehicle credited for popularizing the original muscle car segment.
And we have to agree with Director Drew Kirsch further, as the video also shows a pair of what one might call background muscle cars. Then again, these are at least as impressive as the other names, since we’re looking at a 1971 Plymouth Cuda and a 1970 Dodge Challenger. And while we’re not entirely sure of the latter’s model year, the pair of E-Bodies is simply perfect for Mopar fans.
Run follows YG’s Scared Money track that landed back in February, with both set to be included in his upcoming “Pray for Me” studio album, which will be the artist’s sixth one.
