All-New Lexus LFA II Coming in 2025 With Twin-Turbo Hybrid V8 Making 900 HP

While Lexus is known for making great luxury sedans and the ever-popular RX crossover, it also manufactured one of the best supercars of the modern era. Ever since production ended in 2012, rumors talked of the LFA’s return, and according to a new report out of Japan, the LFA II is finally happening.

If we remember correctly, the first LFA rumors suggested Lexus was going to offer a second series, making roadsters. The supercar’s development was long and expensive, so it made sense to use the existing fabrication methods and facilities again.

However, Lexus never made an official statement, and a few years later, an LFA successor was rumored. The project was real. However, the development of the most important component, a twin-turbo V8, was canceled in 2022. This 4.0-liter was supposed to make over 600 hp and power all kinds of cars, like a Cayenne turbo rival and the LC F.

But it seems this story may have a happy ending after all. Japanese scoop website Best Car Web just published a report about the LFA II. According to them, this new flagship model is scheduled to debut in 2025 as a hybrid model with a transaxle layout.

The core of the Lexus LFR (trademarked) project is the new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which resides under the hood in place of the LFA’s original V10 engine. While the number of cylinders is downgraded, the output is up to around 700-720 PS or 690-710 hp. An additional electric motor will be installed somewhere in this “transaxle FR” supercar, and together they will produce around 900 PS or 888 hp.

So it won’t have a V10, which means it’s not a worthy successor to the best-sounding car of the modern era. Right? Well, the point of the original LFA was to sound like a race car. The LFA II is reportedly developed in parallel with a GT3 dedicated race car. So it might not be too disappointing. We know Toyota is scheduled to compete with this next-gen race car in the 2026 World Endurance Championship and Le Mans 24 Hours.

LFA II: design and dimensions

The 2025 Lexus LFA flagship reportedly takes after the Electrified Sports concept of last year. However, that was supposed to be all-electric. Best Car has put together a set of renderings that they claim accurately depict the new Japanese supercar.

It’s a very clean and modern shape, quite different from most of the other supercars on sale today. Not many have a front-engined transaxle layout. The LFA II is also supposed to be compact, estimated at 4,600mm long, 1,950mm wide, and only 1,200mm tall, with a 2,700mm wheelbase. That’s 2 full inches shorter than a Ferrari Roma and slightly less tall than a Miata.

The price is perhaps the most puzzling element of this report: just 20 million yen, equivalent to about $145,000. The base LFA was about $375,000 a decade ago, but our source claims this is a “catalog product” not a limited-production car. I suppose prices also dropped for AMG flagships, from the SLR to the SLS and the GT.
