Liberty Walk’s Slammed Widebody Eight-Wheeler Truck Is a Mitsubishi Fuso Super Great That Likes to Party

To you and me, Liberty Walk widebody kits are out of the ordinary—and for good reason—but, as you can imagine, Wataru Kato, the 55-year-old founder of the Japanese specialist, sees the aero bits as his usual business. So, every now and then, he decides to go above and beyond, releasing a product that makes even the stiffest jaws drop. So what it is this time? A new racecar like the company’s four-rotor R35 GT-R? Nope, it’s a Liberty Walk eight-wheeler truck, a Mitsubishi Fuso Super Great like no other.

Liberty Walk teased its commercial truck last fall, with the vehicle having been unveiled earlier this month at the Japan Truck Show. And yes, that livery is familiar because we’ve seen it on the said Wankel-swapped Nissan GT-R.

For starters, the Super Great is the name of a truck built by Mitsubishi Fuso, which is now mostly owned by Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler.

The body kit was designed by Liberty Walk and built by Japanese truck part specialist Seno Pro Trucks together with Dieselaid.

With that out of the way, we can talk about the fact that the obviously non-articulated 8×4 truck (eight-wheeler with four driven wheels) sports plenty of aero additions.

Riveted-on overfenders on a commercial truck

These range from smaller bits, such as the vents on the side of the grille, to heftier pieces like the side panels. However, the icing on the cake involves the riveted-on overfenders, which Liberty Walk claims are a first on a commercial truck. And these might just turn people’s attention away from any widebody supercar you can think of.

In fact, LB Walk, which is actually LB Trucks when handling such behemoths, has kindly provided a photo that also involves a stock Mitsubishi Super Great, so we can clearly notice the differences.

A modded truck through and through

Widebody aside, the vehicle has been brought closer to the road. Of course, a slammed truck is always a tricky proposition, with the very nature of these haulers meaning they have to deal with all sorts of road caprices. Then again, we expect the vehicle to ride on air suspension, which should allow its ride height to be increased at will.

Besides, the lowering should help the truck in the battle against the wing, which means we can count this as a fuel reduction measure.

The Liberty Walk-branded tires of the machine are wrapped around custom wheels, which were probably provided by Japanese specialist Rays (please note the decal on the side of the vehicle).

Then there’s there are the massive side pipes, which naturally dwarf those on the otherwise god-like Mercedes-AMG G63 while reminding us of them.

Speaking of which, the roughly 12-liter turbodiesel engines on these beasts make between 300 hp/1,177 Nm (868 lb-ft) and 520 hp/2,160 Nm 1,593 lb-ft), so while those shiny pipes are there for the show, they’re backed by some serious pulling power.

The price for the complete aero kit sits at 2,780,000 JPY ($21,821 or 20,444 at the current exchange rates), while the steel wheel set is listed for 850,000 JPY ($6,666 or EUR6,250).

Liberty Walk’s Mitsubishi Fuso Super Great is a complete effort, so the interior was also covered, with the specialist introducing various carbon trim pieces and custom floor mats.

And we can only wonder what kind of widebody, low-riding machine gets to sit in the back of this plus-size JDM machine.
