All-new 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Debuts With 754 HP, F-150 Lightning Is in Trouble

Michigan is home to yet another exciting debut as GM has revealed its third all-electric pickup. The all-new 2024 Sierra EV Denali is the flagship version of the first electric vehicle ever to wear the Sierra badge, and the good news is that it doesn’t look like the Silverado or Hummer.

Just from a styling perspective, this is quite the looker. Even though it shares its architecture with the Silverado, the Sierra EV has unique body panels. The overall shape is a bit more conventional, just like the Ford F-150 Lightning, but there are plenty of cutting-edge details to differentiate this from a V8 GMC truck.

It’s pretty clear that where the Hummer EV was bold enough to appeal to rappers and famous YouTubers, the GMC is designed for the conservative crowd. The conventional Sierra has been going from strength to strength with record sales in the past years.

The numbers are pretty impressive too, though you’ve probably heard them all from the Chevrolet marketing team. The GMC Sierra EV will offer up to 400 miles of range on a full charge, but they are going crazy with the launch model, the Edition 1. This has 754 and 785 pound-feet of torque, which will make this the quickest, most powerful vehicle GMC has ever sold.

There’s a version of the Hummer EV that’s supposed to have this much power, but it’s noticeably more than the top Silverado EV at 664 hp. GMC promises a 0 to 60 time of 4.5 seconds, making this about as fast as a sports car.

We believe these are just preliminary numbers. The Rivian R1T is noticeably faster and the F-150 Lightning is a close match in Lariat form with just 580 hp.

Perhaps more important than acceleration is charging speed. Just like the Hummer, the Sierra EV Denali boasts 350 kW DC fast charging. Under ideal conditions, you might get 100 miles of extra range in only 10 minutes, useful when you’ve got one of the largest batteries of any electric vehicle.

Denali Edition 1 starts at $107,000 and will arrive in early 2024

GMC is already taking reservations for what is undoubtedly going to be one of the hottest vehicles in America. It’s not cheap either, with prices starting at $107,000 for this flagship model which has everything crammed in.

This includes the MultiPro MidGate, 4-Wheel Steer, CrabWalk, and the Air Ride Adaptive Suspension that can lift the vehicle 2 inches. The Edition 1 will come standard with 24-inch wheels and 35-inch tires, while the interior is nothing short of luxurious.

The practicality is amazing. The MultiPro MidGate opens up to extend the 5′ 11″ bed into the cabin. The MultiPro Tailgate can also be extended, giving you 11 feet of flat storage. The GMC Sierra EV not only comes with a front trunk, like the Lightning but also a lockable, weatherproof tonneau cover.

AT4 and Elevation trims coming later

Not everybody needs a $107,000 truck with this much power. For them, GMC has announced two more grades. The Sierra EV4 AT4 will debut in late 2024, sporting a more rugged grille, rugged cladding in silver, a 2-inch lift, and smaller 18-inch wheels.

Pricing has not been announced, but we expect this to come in at around $80,000… if you can find one. In 2025, the entry-level Elevation trim will be introduced, priced at $50,000. Horsepower isn’t mentioned, but we know the Silverado EV Work truck makes 510 hp and 615 pound-feet.
