Chevrolet has begun road testing on what is to become the 2024 Tahoe and probably the Suburban as well. The first test prototype was spotted about a day ago, providing early glimpses of an updated design and potential new features.
The 2021 Chevy Tahoe was the last major update, the 5th generation of an SUV that can be used for towing boats or even off-roading. It’s one of the few vehicles we can think of that could carry up to nine people thanks to an optional 9-seat front bench on the base LS model. The Tahoe was already equipped with the top-of-the-line features you could get for this platform, so what are they going to change?
Starting from the front, both the 2024 Tahoe and the Suburban will feature a restyled bumper that integrates new light elements which follow the latest design trends with Chevrolet, aka the same style you’re seeing on their EVs.
This rendering created by the website Kolesa accurately depicts the possible design of the 2024 Tahoe, which will have its headlights split into two. Up top, a slim element forms a brow with a strip under the hood and integrates the driving lights and the turn signals, giving the SUV its styling identity. The actual forward lighting will come from the main headlights which now sit lower in the bumper.
The same design is already seen on models such as the Blazer and Trailblazer, but also the Silverado HD to which the Tahoe is mechanically related. It’s also in the Silverado EV, though the rest of that pickup looks a bit more futuristic.
The silver grille trim and the wheels on this rendering are quite nice, so you’re probably looking at the high-grade 2024 Chevy Tahoe High Country. It’s the one at the very top of the model lineup, costing about $80,000. Our personal favorites are the Z71 with the rugged look and the RST with the blacked-out sporty look. We believe GM will start offering 24-inch wheels on at least two trim levels of the 2024 Tahoe, the High Country, and RST.
Around the back, Chevrolet is making major taillight changes. These will have a stronger LED signature and will now be connected by a strip that goes across the trunk for a premium appearance. The rendering shows four exhaust pipes, but it’s possible that most models will have integrated tips in the bumper and the mufflers tucked away, at least based on the spy photos.
Nothing is known about the interior, but we expect a bigger infotainment screen is on the way, just what a Ford rival needs. Speaking of competitors, besides the Expedition, the 2024 Tahoe will have to compete with the excellent new Toyota Sequoia. The updated 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe is expected to roll off the assembly line in Arlington, Texas at the end of November 2023.
