World’s First Rolls-Royce 6×6 Phantom Is a Desert-Ready Land Yacht

6×6 Rolls-Royces? The Internet is loaded with them. It’s just that everything you could find on the web so far involved renderings, while this six-wheeled Phantom is as real as they get. And it’s the kind of one-off creation that will instantly make a Cullinan, the British marque’s SUV, look small.

Most builds involving modern Rollers rely on the Ghost (or its derivatives), which is the less large of the two luxury sedans the Goodwood brand offers. Not thing one, though. You see, the behemoth is based on a 2005 Rolls-Royce Phantom.

This seventh-generation sedan is essentially the first modern Rolls-Royce (how about this 1960s Silver Cloud dually platform truck?) . BMW, which had acquired the RR name and logo in 1998, launched the model in 2003, just two years after introducing its controversial E65 (Bangle-era) 7 Series flagship sedan.

Now, the British model naturally shares some of its components with the German vehicleโ€”such as its updated 6.75L twin-turbo V12 that’s present here in factory form (think: 454 hp and 720 Nm). However, this example takes the bond even further. That’s because the Phantom keeps the factory body right up the rear door, while the elongated section that starts past the said point uses the tech side of a 2007 (E65) 7 Series.

Now, the vehicle is presented as a six-by-six in the Supercar Blondie video below. And while its off-roading-ready look would make such a setup sound logical, we’re not 100% sure this isn’t a six-wheeler with perhaps four driven wheels at the back. For one, the said iteration of the Bimmer didn’t come with xDrive AWD.

Built by Danton Arts Kustoms in France

However, the French builder of the vehicle, Alexandre Danton, has completed at least one 6×6 project via his Danton Arts Kustoms label, namely an old Land Rover Defender. Having covered his projects since 2017 (you can find the stories by Googling our names together or just check out this V8 hot-rodded Citroen 2CV), I can tell you that his eccentric, castle-based lifestyle is clearly reflected in his builds.

Perhaps his most famous creation to date is a Lamborghini Espada, which has been taken down the hot rod route. Featuring an exposed V12, this was signed by company founder Ferruccio Lamborghini’s nephew, Fabio, before heading off into the world. That’s right, the enthusiast’s builds land in all corners of the world, with this 6X6 Rolls-Royce now sitting in a showroom in Dubai.

That part of the world has its fair share of big brutes (the G63 is a favorite). However, as you’ll notice in the vehicle below, this Phantom has a habit for dwarfing the traffic around it. It could be the 24-inch wheels shod in rugged, but low-profile tires and covered by aluminum overfendersโ€ฆ

Crocodile and snake leather for the modern classic Rolls-Royce cabin

On the inside, the monster keeps the factory cabin, a minimalist interior that has aged extremely well. Nevertheless, the interior is now covered in orange leather, while the steering wheel features crocodile leather and the center console sports snake leather.

And with the car industry officially leaning more and more towards lifted body styles (e.g.:2022 Maybach Haute Voiture concept, 2023 Peugeot 408 production model), we may see more land yachts like this Roller in the future. And not necessarily from independent builders.

Meanwhile, check this space later today for a dedicated story on Danton’s next build, a Lamborghini Urus 6×6. If completed, this should cater to the needs of those who feel the Urus isn’t as radical as its LM002 spiritual predecessor. And then some.
