While the 500 hp Dark Horse is the headliner for factory seventh-gen ‘Stangs, RTR Vehicles has already treated us to the first tuned iteration of the new S650 generation, the 2024 Mustang RTR Spec 2. Following the official release from a few days ago, company founder/president and Formula Drift champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. recently announced a custom exhaust for the 2024 Mustang RTR street car.
The North Carolina-based tuning specialist, which was born in 2010, has always been close to the Blue Oval and its Ford Performance go-fast arm, from custom packages offered in the automaker’s showrooms and standout builds to Formula Drift where the carmaker is currently sponsoring the 1,300 hp 2024 Mustang RTR Spec 5-FD.
While a host of RTR packages is coming to the seventh-gen Mustang street car, the official release mentioned in the intro involved the Spec 1 (details will be announced later on), along with the Spec 2-we’ll go over the bits and pieces below.
The first custom exhaust for the S650 Mustang
Meanwhile, with the 2023 Ford Nationals taking place this weekend at the Carlisle Fairgrounds in Pennsylvania, Vaughn Gittin Jr. was there to drift the 2024 Mustang RTR Spec 2.
And while the customized pony put on an impressive show, its V8 soundtrack wasn’t quite on par with the rest of the spectacle. However, on his Instagram page, the Formula Drift star announced an RTR exhaust for the S650 Mustang is coming soonโyou’ll find a screenshot at the end of the gallery below.

The Spec 2 includes 22 pieces and comes with a price of $12,495 over the donor Mustang, which can be a base EcoBoost, a GT V8 or the towering Dark Horse.
Starting with aero up front, we have the upper and lower grille with 3D-like LED signature lights, chin splitter, and under-tray extension. Then there are the rocker splitters, rear quarter splitters, and a decklid spoiler.
Moving to the handling part, this includes lowering springs, adjustable front and rear sway bars, adjustable shocks, and strut tower up front, plus a rear shock mount kit and RTR Wheels in a 20-inch size. In addition, the interior can be customized with a shift knob, floor mats, badging and a dash plaque.
The 2024 RTR Mustang will come to showrooms in Summer 2023, says the tuner
As for the availability of the 2024 RTR Mustang, the company’s website mentions the Spec 1 and Spec 2 cars will hit select showrooms in Summer 2023, albeit without any further details.
Keep in mind that Ford has delayed mass production of the S650 Mustang, informing those who had their cars on order about this in an email that cited supply chain issues as the reason.
However, the automaker hasn’t provided an exact date. And since the calendar, as well as the weather, tell us it’s summer already, that brand-new Mustang can’t come to the streets soon enough.
In the meantime, you can catch the RTR-ed S650 doing its sideways thing in the YouTube clip below (lens tip to Nerd Safari), with a surprise appearance from Vaughn Gittin Jr.’s RTR-X 1969 Mustang restomod, with its Kinsler-injected Coyote V8.
