There are plenty of songs talking about how one might only truly appreciate love once they’ve lost it and, despite the need for this, none of those tracks are about the Dodge Viperโever since the supercar’s demise in 2017, its Internet reputation seems to have become stronger than ever. And it’s not just the Gen V Viper people love. In fact, we’ve gathered here today to discuss a Gen II Viper that recently battled a trio of more modern performance machines, namely a 2011 Audi S4, a 2007 Mustang GT, and that headline-grabbing 2021 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack Widebody.
Sure, we all know the trick involving cars like this 2000 Viper that have kept their factory appearance while welcoming an onslaught of aftermarket parts underneath the skin. But this isn’t the case, at least not yet-while YouTuber Four Eyes, who owns the slice of America, plans to take this down the modding route, 9-liter stroker kit and all, the Viper was still stock when it faced the said triumvirate.
A good old straight-line confrontation was prepared, even though we have to remind you to stick to the track and not get involved in street fights like this one.
Before facing the AWD performance sedan, the modded ex-gen Mustang GT, and the new-car-smell Mopar in drag and roll races, the Viper visited the dyno. Spoiler alert: the snake set off on the right foot, so while its 8.0L pushrod V10 is rated at 450 hp and 490 lb-ft (664 Nm) of torque (the flywheel figures), its at-the-wheels numbers sat at an impressive 410 hp and 436 lb-ft.
The Audi and the Dodge came to the brawl in factory form (think: 333 hp 3.0L supercharged V6 with a manual and AWD, and 485 hp 6.4L N/A V8 sending the power to the back with an 8-speed auto, respectively). However, we can’t say the same about the ‘Stang, whose pre-Coyote 4.6L V8 had received a stroker kit, custom cams and headers, and other goodies that help it deliver 390 hp and 350 lb-ft at the wheels, albeit with a five-speed manual that had seen better days.
And the fact that such videos probably drive the price of such Gen II Vipers up (nooo!) only makes them a guilty pleasure.
