You can recognize a modern Lamborghini supercar’s soundtrack even before its V10 or V12 wakes up, as the starter motors of these Italian exotics make a characteristic noise that feels more energetic than one might expect . What about a Lamborghini tractor, though? Of course, this brings us to the diesel side and we’ve got a completely restored 1960 Lamborghini 2241R Tractor to sample such a soundtrack.
This compact tractor was built three years before Ferruccio Lamborghini, fueled by the now-famous quarrel with Enzo Ferrari over the constantly failing clutch of the former’s Ferrari 250 GT, created Automobili Lamborghini, the brand that populates speed fans’ dreams to this day. By that time, the Italian had already pushed Lamborghini Trattori to the top of the country’s market by using his engineering training to build simple tractors using WWII surplus.
And the 2241R we have here stays true to that recipe. This is a compact tractor powered by the maker’s first generation of diesel motors. Ferruccio was so fond of these small machines that he had the series nicknamed Lamborghinetta. And while the company developed much larger and more complex tractors over the years, it was this kind of machine that assisted Ferruccio on his final journey during his 1993 funeral.
This looks like a “very early” 2241R
Zooming in further on the tractor, we find this sports one of the early DL20 enginesโas shown on a plaque present on the vehicle, the air-cooled, two-cylinder naturally aspirated diesel makes 22 PS at 1,900 rpm.
The vehicle has received an extensive restoration over in Italy (sadly, this old John Deere AO tractor seems too far gone). The tractor, which is now finished in the kind of colors that would make racing fans scream “Gulf livery”, comes with dual rear power take-off shafts, a sprung steel seat featuring Lamborghini badging, and partial rear fenders.
The Lamborghini tractor is currently offered on Bring a Trailer (there were about 9 hours to go, with the highest bid sitting at $17,500 when this article was published). Now, as some of you know, one of the BAT pillars is the community of in-the-know enthusiasts who add valuable details in the comments section.
And a user nicknamed Sliding_Pillar is responsible for identifying the “very early” nature of this 2241R based on its engine. The aficionado also delivers an extra take on the Italian restoration the tractor received before being imported to the US by the selling dealerโlocated in Cleveland, Georgiaโin 2021. For the record, his description received more than a hundred likes.
As the enthusiast points out by comparing the current state of the machine with the one visible in the attached pre-restoration pics, the original headlights and taillights have been replaced with modern lamps, while original-style reproductions are available, at least over in the tractor’s home country. He also noted the missing rear tow attachment and rear hub nut cover.
A shining machine
Nevertheless, the vehicle appears to be in excellent shape. In fact, to get back to that ASMR mentioned in the title, you can hear the air-cooled diesel coming to life in the YouTube video below.
Now, as the seller points out in the comments section, the compact size of this 1960 Lamborghini DL 20 2241R means the tractor is suitable for either vineyard use or as a collector item.
Sharing its limited footprint with another famous tractor, the Porsche Junior, this Lamborghini is garage- and transport-friendly. Of course, one can always use a larger hauling apparatus when the object being transported to a parade demands itโthis restored 1987 Kenworth K100 pulling a Chevy Square Body-swapped tank will gladly provide an example of such a feat.
